Boating
Florida is the boating capital of the world. There are more registered boats here than any other U.S. state. Plus, at least 100,000 out-of-state boats ply Florida waters on any given day.
The Intracoastal Waterway, which stretches from the Anclote River in the north at Tarpon Springs to the channel at Pass-a-Grille in the south, is your highway to adventure. It is just a short run up Pinellas county’s sugar-sand beaches to Caladesi Island, one of a few state parks that has docking facilities, and nearby Three Rooker Bar and Anclote Key, two wild barrier islands that are both havens for boaters. Head south out of the mouth of Tampa Bay and it is just a short run to Anna Maria Island and Sarasota.
If you don’t own your own boat or you want to enjoy the boating lifestyle without the hassle of boat maintenance, consider joining a boat club. For an annual fee, you can enjoy unlimited use of a variety of vessels.
Water Sports
One of the best ways to enjoy the Tampa Bay area is by water. Calm, mild waters and long hot days make our area ideal for water skiing, jet skiing, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking and virtually every other water sport imaginable. Caladesi Island and Fort Desoto State Park are favorites for kayaking. Rentals are available on site.
Stand up Paddle Boarding has gained intense popularity in recent years and the calm waters of the Tampa Bay area make SUP’ing fun and easy. Lessons and board rentals are available from a variety of local companies.
Golf
Golf is a year-round activity in Florida and the Tampa Bay area has a large number of both public and private courses for the golf enthusiast. If you are an avid golfer, consider looking at homes in a golf community where your membership is included. The area offers a wide array of golf course communities with single family homes, condominiums and townhomes to fit all budgets.
- Pinellas Golf Course Search allows you to search public and private courses.
- Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort features four championship courses and hosts the PGA Transitions Championship each March. The resort also has a 620 room hotel, spa, 3 restaurants and conference facilities.
- Lansbrook Golf Club offers daily fee golf, golf membership and driving range memberships at its 18 hole, par-72 course in Palm Harbor.
- Belleview Biltmore Golf Club has a rich history and the picturesque setting offers an 18 hole, 71-par championship course in Belleair. Open to the public.
- Dunedin Golf Club was designed by world-renowned architect Donald Ross in 1927 and underwent a major renovation in 2006/07. Voted Best Golf Course in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area 2014!
